Community Wellbeing Session: Raising Awareness with STEMCELL SCOUSERS – 27th June 2025

by | Mar 6, 2025 | Community Events, Community Updates, SSG Events, Wellbeing Sessions

Join us on Friday, 27th June 2025, for our next Community Wellbeing Session as we welcome Kevin Dunne from STEMCELL SCOUSERS. One of the main objectives is to raise awareness of the Signs of BLOOD CANCER and BLOOD DISORDERS as too many blood cancer patients are late diagnosed. Around 50% are diagnosed in A&E whilst attending for an unrelated problem. The session will also focus on the urgent need for more stem cell donors, blood donors, and platelet donors to help save lives.

About STEMCELL SCOUSERS

STEMCELL SCOUSERS is a small community group based in Formby, working in partnership with the Anthony Nolan Stem Cell Donor Register Charity and the NHS Blood Transfusion Service. The group was founded in 2015 by Kevin Dunne after Anthony Nolan helped find a life-saving stem cell donor for his wife, Mary, who was battling an aggressive form of leukaemia.

Mary’s only chance of survival was a stem cell transplant. Until she was able to receive the transplant, she relied on multiple blood transfusions to keep her alive. Thanks to the kindness of a donor, Mary was given a second chance at life. Now, Kevin and Mary are dedicated to raising awareness about the worldwide shortage of stem cell donors and the urgent need for more people to register to give blood and platelets.

What Will Be Covered?

During this session, Kevin will share his personal story and provide important information on:

  • The critical shortage of stem cell donors worldwide.
  • The importance of blood and platelet donation.
  • How you can register as a donor and potentially help save a life.
  • Common misconceptions about stem cell and blood donation.
  • The life-changing impact that donors have on patients in need.

This session is a unique opportunity to learn how a simple act of kindness—such as registering as a donor—can make a difference in someone’s life.

This session is open to everyone, whether you:
