Join us on Friday, 30th May 2025, for our next Community Wellbeing Session as we welcome Carolyn McConnell, Chief Executive Officer of Mencap Liverpool & Sefton. This session will focus on the challenges and barriers faced by people with a learning disability, as well as the opportunities available through the Mencap Community Cottage.

About the Session

Carolyn will provide an insightful talk on what it means to have a learning disability today, how perceptions have changed over the last 50 years, and the ongoing challenges that people with a learning disability still face.

The session will cover:

  • What is a Learning Disability? – Understanding the definition and how it affects daily life.
  • National Facts & Figures – A look at key statistics and changes over time.
  • Challenging Perceptions – How Mencap Liverpool & Sefton is working to shift attitudes and break down barriers.
  • Opportunities at the Mencap Community Cottage – Exciting projects and support available to those with a learning disability.
  • Case Studies – Real-life stories of how Mencap’s work is making a difference.
  • Getting Involved – How you can support Mencap’s work or simply visit the Mencap Community Cottage Coffee Shop for a friendly chat and a cup of coffee.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of learning disabilities, challenge common misconceptions, and discover how we can all help create a more inclusive community.
