Today, we welcomed Fay from 2wish for an informative and incredibly helpful Community Wellbeing Session.

Fay is the Counselling Support and Outreach Coordinator for Merseyside and joined us to raise awareness of the support available to anyone affected by the sudden or unexpected death of a child or young person under the age of 25.

Although the subject matter was understandably sensitive, Fay delivered the session with warmth, compassion and honesty. She gave everyone attending a much clearer understanding of the work carried out by 2wish and the support available to families, siblings, friends, communities and professionals.

Support When It Is Needed Most

During the session, Fay explained how 2wish was founded following an unimaginable family tragedy and why providing support as quickly as possible is so important to the charity.

We learned more about the support pathway available through 2wish, including immediate contact following a referral, home visits, practical guidance, counselling, complementary therapies and ongoing peer support.

Fay also discussed the thoughtful ways the charity supports bereaved siblings and helps families preserve important memories of their child.

Support Without a Time Limit

One of the most important messages from the session was that support from 2wish is not time limited.

People can come forward for help many years after a bereavement, and the charity supports far more than immediate family members. Its services are available to anyone affected, including teachers, neighbours, police officers, healthcare workers and members of the wider community.

Fay spoke about the ripple effect that the sudden death of a young person can have and why it is so important that everyone affected knows where they can turn.

Life Growing Around Grief

The session also explored the idea that grief does not simply disappear or become smaller over time. Instead, life gradually grows around it.

This is why coffee mornings, wellbeing walks, family activities and opportunities to meet others with similar lived experiences form such an important part of the support offered by 2wish.

These safe and understanding spaces can help people build friendships, share experiences and feel less alone.

Thank You to Fay and 2wish

We would like to offer a huge thank you to Fay for visiting the centre and delivering such a thoughtful and valuable session.

Fay was lovely, approachable and incredibly helpful. Everyone attending came away with a much better understanding of 2wish and the compassionate work the charity carries out.

As 2wish is still relatively new to Merseyside, raising awareness is incredibly important. Even sharing information with one person could help it reach someone who needs support.

Thank you again to Fay and everyone who joined us for the session.
