We were honoured to welcome Kevin Dunne from #STEMCELLSCOUSERS as our guest speaker for our June Community Wellbeing Session at Sefton Support Group.

Kevin shared his powerful personal journey — how his wife Mary’s life was saved by a stem cell donor found through the Anthony Nolan register, after she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia. Until she could receive her transplant, Mary relied on regular blood transfusions to stay alive. Their story brought home the life-saving importance of stem cell, blood, and platelet donation.

The session focused on raising awareness of the signs of blood cancer and blood disorders, particularly the issue of late diagnosis — with nearly 50% of patients diagnosed in A&E. Kevin also helped attendees understand the donation process, debunked common myths, and explained how registering as a donor could give someone a second chance at life.
