Sefton Support Group was delighted to attend a recent wellbeing event at Hugh Baird College, following an invitation to take part in their student wellbeing fayre.
The event took place on Thursday 18th June and was set up as an open, drop-in style fayre where students could speak with local charities, support services and organisations. The aim was to help students understand what support, volunteering opportunities, career routes and community services are available to them across the local area.
We attended the event from 1pm until 3:30pm and had the opportunity to speak with students, staff and a wide range of organisations throughout the afternoon.
Many of the students who attended were looking for advice, ideas and information about what else may be available to them beyond their current studies. For some, it was a chance to explore different options, ask questions and take information away to think about whether their current course is the right path for them, or whether other opportunities may be worth exploring.
Events like this are so important because they bring local services together in one place and give young people direct access to information that may help them make informed choices about their future.
There was a brilliant mix of organisations in attendance, including Kooth, Venus, The Samaritans, The King’s Trust, ACE, The Learning Foundry, Sahir, the Trail Blazer programme, Sefton@Work and others.

For Sefton Support Group, it was a really valuable opportunity to share more about the work we do in the community. We were able to explain the support available through SSG, including our drop-in support, wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling, community sessions and signposting to other local services.
It was also a great chance for us to connect with other organisations. We spoke with representatives from the services in attendance, heard more about the support they provide, took photographs, and collected flyers and marketing materials to bring back to the SSG Centre.
These materials will now be displayed at our centre so members and visitors can find out more about the different support services, opportunities and organisations available locally.
Overall, it was a very positive and worthwhile event. It was lovely to see so many organisations coming together to support students, share opportunities and help young people understand the different routes available to them.
We would like to thank Hugh Baird College for inviting Sefton Support Group to attend. We really appreciated the opportunity to be involved and look forward to hopefully attending future events.
